Imagine you are a sailor on a whaling vessel!

Tonight's HW is to write a letter as if you were an African American sailor on a whaling vessel.

Directions:

Imagine that you have discovered a shipwreck of a whaling vessel from the mid-1800s. Surprisingly, everything on the ship has somehow manage to survive and is in perfect condition! You find a small sack of letters that must have been written by the crew members to their loved ones on shore. Unfortunately, the letters never made it to their destination. Using what you learned today in class, write a letter that could have been authored by an African American sailor. Be sure to show what you know – from the reading from Fri, and the readings today. Be specific! Include multiple facts! Be creative!
Due: Tomorrow, Tues 12/16

Remember: You have an open notebook quiz on Wed. Be sure you are staying focused in class, reading the texts, and keeping your binder organized.
