Classwork: Propaganda Poster Activity

Nazi Propaganda Poster Activity: http://www.calvin.edu/academic/cas/gpa/posters2.htm

Your job is to analyze 3-4 posters, using the handout given in class. Make sure you do the following for each poster:

1) Describe the poster. Detail the color, shapes, sizes, etc. Your goal isn't to interpret, but to state what you see.
2) Now interpret. What do you think is the message of this poster?
3) Tell me what you think this poster can teach us about life in Nazi Germany at the time.

Then, you must complete a 1-2 paragraph response answering any of the following questions:

a. What effect did propaganda have on how many ordinary Germans defined their we/they?
b. What has this activity taught you about how the Nazi tried to get their message across to Germans?
c. What has this activity taught you about propaganda?
d. What kind of propaganda messages do you get from each of the following sources: school, parents, government, MTV, or other television/media?
e. Is all propaganda automatically bad? Can there be "good propaganda"? If so, give examples, why not?
