This weekend, you are to start reading about the second phase of mills in the United States, with the creation of the Lowell Mills in Lowell, MA. This reading provides a basic background on what life was like for the girls hired to work in these mills. You task is to read and ACTIVELY mark up (summarize key points in margins, ask questions, make connections, define difficult words, etc).
This is due Tues 10/27, but should definitely be started over the weekend. I don't have a soft copy, so you need the hard copy I gave out in class.
As noted in class, on Monday I will be announcing the first details related to the essay you will be writing in this class. Make sure you keep this in mind as you do the reading -- you might end up writing about what you learning, so mark up!!
