Tonight's HW, and an overview of the IR Essay!

Tonight's homework is to continue working on reading and actively marking up the Lowell Mill Girls packet. This is due tomorrow, Tues 10/27.

In addition, I introduced two extra credit opportunities.
1) Watch the U.S. Senate Debate (for the Democratic primary) tonight, from 7-8pm on NECN, or another local channel. It's also to be broadcast on NPR radio (90.9 FM). Complete a 1/2 page written response. Due tomorrow, Tues 10/27.
2) Read Lyddie, by Katherine Paterson, to help better understand the experiences of the girls who worked at the Lowell Mills. In order to get credit, 1) you must read the book by Fri 11/6, 2) attend a lunch or after school book discussion (25-30 minutes, dates TBD), and include at least piece of evidence from the book in your paper.

Finally, I introduce the Industrial Revolution essay paper that you will be working on over the next 3 weeks. I passed out an Overview Sheet, with essay question options and a tentative schedule for when major pieces of the essay will be due.
First up, you must choose your essay topic by Wed. Remember, I will be available afterschool on Tues if you want to chat about what essay topics you might select. The 3 in bold are ones I feel are most accessable and straight forward. The others ones might be considered slightly more challenging. And, the Walmart comparison will require extensive outside of class research. If you choose to to do this essay, you will need to get my approval first. If you need a new copy of the essay overview, you can download it: lowell essay 09_kch using the link to the right.
